Why I am interested in NAs'

In early 1970’s I took a trip with the Smithsonian (2 pros from there) and 2 Navajo guides to the Navajo, Hopi, & Zuni Nations, studying their arts and crafts. Specialists joined us each day or evening all along the way and the two Navajo guides added their personal unique touch by enabling us (13 people in 2 vans) to visit personal friends in their home. I could write a book but will make it short here! Thus, I started my collection and have been back numerous times. Living in NYC, I was the sole volunteer at the NA museum there before, during and after the Smithsonian took over. I had the pleasure of working in the acquisitions department, examining and recording condition reports on new items and items as the exited (for loan to other museums & repatriation). One of my most memorable spiritual experiences was writing the condition report on the sacred white buffalo hide before it was ceremonially returned to the Sioux Nation.

Thank you for your kind words about my first Southwest experience. I love re-living it every day and cherish the art, crafts, and jewelry I acquired then and on subsequent trips. They are a wonderful way to remember the creative people who made them. From Peaches
